Two individuals have been killed following a violent clash between rival cult groups in the Oron Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The victims were identified as Paul Eyo and Ekpe, with their deaths reportedly resulting from the bloody encounter.

Sources indicate that Paul Eyo, believed to be affiliated with one of the cult groups involved, was fatally attacked. Meanwhile, Ekpe, the principal of a high school in Oron and alleged member of a rival cult group, was gruesomely beheaded during the confrontation.

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, confirmed the tragic incident during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Ikot Akpan-Abia, Uyo. He also revealed that three suspects had been apprehended in connection with the killings.

In his statement, the Commissioner explained, “On 16th October 2024, at approximately 6:35 am, our operatives were alerted by the youth leader about the presence of a body with clear signs of violence. The deceased, identified as Paul Eyo, a male suspected member of the Black Axe group from Eyo Abasi, sustained machete wounds to the head that led to his death. Additionally, Ekpe, also from Eyo-Abasi and suspected to belong to the Vikings cult, was beheaded.”

Later that day, based on reliable intelligence, the police arrested three suspects: Mfon Etim Uzoma, Robert Effiong Etim, and Malachi Williams Ubokulo. The trio was captured in a ravine at Abiak Owo Ebughu, Mbo LGA, where it is believed the gang responsible for the earlier killings had retreated.
