In a bid to address the pressing challenges facing the nation, the Nigerian Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, is currently holding discussions with key officials from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
As reported by Vanguard Newspaper, the central focus of the meeting is the recent surge in petrol prices and the impact this has had on the economy and the public. The dialogue is taking place at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.
Prominent government officials in attendance include Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the Labour Minister; and Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Other key figures participating are Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Information Minister; Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum; Ekperikpe Ekpo, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), along with representatives from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited.
The recent increase in petrol prices has been a major point of contention. Filling stations operated by NNPC Limited have adjusted their prices to N1,030 per litre, a hike that took effect earlier this month. This new pricing comes just a month after a previous increment that saw petrol prices rise to over N850 per litre.
