According to security sources, the incident occurred early in the morning at a site referred to as Tango 19. The soldier was fatally shot during the ambush. Tragically, the attackers also killed a woman identified as the soldier’s girlfriend, who had reportedly been brought into the camp the previous night.
“Early this morning, an attack occurred against our troops at the 112 Battalion in Mafa LGA. Boko Haram targeted Tango 19, resulting in the death of one soldier and a girl he had secretly brought to the camp,” a source informed SaharaReporters.
Nigeria has been grappling with insurgency in the North-East for nearly two decades, with ongoing efforts to combat the violence. Attempts to reach the army spokesperson, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, for further comment were unsuccessful.
