Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has criticized the current government under President Bola Tinubu, accusing its political office holders of being “bandits” focused solely on enriching themselves at the expense of the public.

Speaking during a recent Channels TV program, Ezekwesili condemned the recent acquisition of a N150 billion luxury jet by President Tinubu, calling it an act of insensitivity given the severe economic hardships Nigerians are facing.

Ezekwesili remarked, “These individuals appear to be playing with the intelligence of Nigerians. Between the executive, the presidency, and the National Assembly, the political class seems to have become bandits against the Nigerian people.” She questioned how the government’s priorities could include purchasing a new aircraft for the president, constructing a N20 billion residence for the Vice President, and acquiring extravagant cars, while the nation grapples with deepening poverty and hunger.

This criticism comes as former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, also demanded transparency from President Tinubu regarding the details of the new Presidential Jet’s cost and age. Obi, in a series of posts on his X account, highlighted the need for Nigerians to know how the older presidential jets are being managed, including how many exist, their age, and the reasons behind their sale. His comments reflect the growing public discontent over the government’s decision to invest in a new Presidential aircraft amid widespread economic difficulties.
