A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday when a cart-pusher lost his life in Lagos State after being struck by a speeding driver. The accident occurred in the Dopemu area, as reported by Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

Taofiq explained that the driver of a commercial LT bus, identified by the number plate EPR 474 YJ, lost control while traveling at high speed. The vehicle collided with both a stationary construction crane and the cart-pusher, leading to fatal consequences.

“A serious accident took place earlier today along Union Road near Cement Bus Stop in Dopemu, resulting in the death of a wheelbarrow pusher,” Taofiq stated. “The commercial bus lost control due to excessive speeding and struck a construction crane parked at the roadside.”

Traffic management officers were quick to arrive at the scene, where they coordinated emergency efforts and secured the area. “The impact of the crash was devastating, resulting in the immediate death of the cart-pusher, whose body was subsequently handed over to security personnel from Afonja Police Station. The damaged bus was also taken for further investigation,” he added.

Expressing condolences to the victim’s family, Taofiq emphasized the importance of road safety. “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the deceased’s family. We urge all drivers to prioritize safety by obeying speed limits and maintaining control of their vehicles to prevent such tragic incidents,” he concluded.

In a related incident reported by PUNCH Online, a driver was arrested by LASTMA operatives on Sunday for injuring a pedestrian in the Mile 2 area. Taofiq noted that this driver had been speeding through a busy section of the road when the collision occurred. LASTMA officials quickly assisted the injured pedestrian, taking them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
