Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, revealed on Tuesday that the country is aiming to increase its power generation to 6,000 megawatts by the end of the year. Speaking in Ikot Nyong, Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, Adelabu highlighted the progress made under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
According to Adelabu, Nigeria’s power generation capacity has risen to 5,105 megawatts within the short span of the current administration. Prior to this, the country was generating less than 4,000 megawatts. This improvement marks a significant step toward addressing Nigeria’s power challenges.
The minister made these remarks during an inspection of the Calabar Power Generation Plant, a subsidiary of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP). His visit was aimed at assessing the current state of the power generation infrastructure, including generators, turbines, and other critical equipment.
Adelabu expressed his satisfaction with what he observed, noting that the Calabar Power Generation Plant stands out as the most active among the power plants managed by the Nigeria Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC). He praised the management for their efforts, emphasizing the plant’s vital role in boosting Nigeria’s power supply.
