Details have emerged regarding a tragic incident where a Nigerian policeman shot and killed his colleague in Lagos State following a heated argument over a used phone.

According to a press release from the police authorities, an investigation has been launched into the incident, which involved police aides assigned to a lawyer, Barrister Wale Fapohunda, in the Surulere area of Lagos State on August 8, 2024.

The statement revealed that, on August 8, 2024, around 10:22 p.m., information was received from the Control Room about a shooting. The report indicated that a police officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto, assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda, had shot and killed Gabriel Audu, another police aide attached to the same lawyer.

Upon receiving the information, a police team immediately proceeded to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where the suspect, Corporal Umar Lawal (F/No 510570), was apprehended. The AK-47 rifle used in the shooting was also recovered. Corporal Lawal confessed to the crime, admitting that his intention was to shoot Vincent, also known as Dogman, with whom he had a heated dispute over a second-hand phone he had purchased.

Tragically, the bullet struck Gabriel Audu in the chest. He was rushed to LUTH General Hospital Idiaraba, where he was pronounced dead. The deceased’s body has been photographed and placed in the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
