In Katsina, a Nigerian soldier has been accused of stealing ammunition and military uniforms from his fellow troops. The soldier, whose identity remains undisclosed, is affiliated with the 35 Battalion stationed in Katsina town.
Footage obtained by SaharaReporters reveals the soldier bound with his hands behind his back while being subjected to physical punishment. One soldier in the video expresses his outrage in Pidgin English, stating, “He stole my ammunition, and that wasn’t enough; he also took my Special Force clothes and my regimental jacket.”
Another soldier voices similar sentiments, remarking, “Look at him; we all belong to the same unit—35 Battalion. He has betrayed us by selling our gear to bandits. We thought he was one of us, not realizing he was an enemy.”
Attempts to reach Army spokesperson Major General Onyema Nwachukwu for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages requesting clarification on the incident.
This is not the first time the military has denounced personnel who have been implicated in supporting terrorist activities, banditry, and other criminal acts across the country.
