A 29-year-old named Mizanmil Abubakar has confessed to murdering his father due to his deep-seated hatred for him.
The crime occurred in the Barin-Sale area of Minna, the capital of Niger State. The Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed the details of the incident in a statement on July 30, 2024.
On July 29, around 10 am, the Kpakungu Police Division received a report that Abubakar Adawa, 65, was missing from his home in Barin-Sale. Police officers, led by the DPO, visited the residence and interrogated Mizanmil Abubakar and his mother, Aisha Abubakar. During a thorough search of the property, the severed body of the missing man was found buried in a shallow grave within the compound.
Mizanmil Abubakar admitted to the murder during interrogation, stating that his intense hatred for his father drove him to commit the act. He described how he used a hoe to kill and dismember his father before burying the remains.
The police spokesperson indicated that a preliminary investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
