In a tragic incident last week, twin toddlers were found dead in a hot car in Norman, Oklahoma, after a relative reportedly forgot to take them to a daycare center. The discovery was made around 3 p.m. on Thursday, when police responded to a welfare check on the 1000 block of W Brooks Street.
The two-year-olds, Ariel and Avery, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Norman Police Department. Authorities said initial investigations suggest that the children were left in the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found by family members.
The toddlers’ parents had left them in the care of a trusted family member, who was supposed to drop them off at daycare but apparently forgot. “This is a truly heartbreaking tragedy,” said a family member, speaking to KFOR. “It’s been incredibly hard for the family, especially with some of the hurtful comments being made. People need to understand that this was not intentional—it was a terrible accident.”
The family has asked for privacy and peace during this difficult time. An official investigation is underway, and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death for the twins.
Kourtnee Usey, a friend of the family, has set up a fund to help cover the funeral expenses. “All funds will go towards giving these precious little babies the funeral they deserve and easing the burden on their father after such an unimaginable loss,” she said. “No one can truly understand the pain of losing a child until it happens to you.”
