The Department of State Security Services (DSS) has detained a University of Ibadan student in connection with the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. Ikhuemoisa Adeoluwa Igaga, a 100-level Computer Science student, was handed over to the DSS by the university’s security unit.

Igaga is the son of Comrade Mike Igaga, a former UI students union speaker, and cousin to the late NANS President, Moses Oisakede. Sources reveal that the DSS intercepted a phone conversation between Ikhuemoisa and his father during a recent UI electricity protest, where they discussed the anticipated national protest against hunger.

“The DSS in Abuja intercepted the phone call and instructed the Ibadan branch to arrest the student. Can you believe this in a democracy?” a source told SaharaReporters. “The first-year student was then taken by the school’s Chief Security Officer and handed over to the DSS.”

The student is currently writing a statement at the UI security unit and is expected to return to the DSS on Monday. Another source mentioned, “DSS is about to release the boy, but he’s now writing a statement at the UI security unit.”

SaharaReporters recently covered the DSS’s actions in Kaduna and Sokoto states, where they picked up youths in relation to the nationwide protest. Aliyu Sanusi, a youth in Sokoto State, was arrested and later released after allegedly printing and distributing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest materials. Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow movement Convener, Omoyele Sowore, shared the news of Sanusi’s release on his X platform (formerly Twitter).

Earlier in the week, SaharaReporters reported the arrest and subsequent release of Engineer Khalid Aminu in Kaduna State. Aminu was detained for allegedly mobilizing support for the upcoming #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest. Sowore also disclosed the news of Aminu’s release.
