Troops from the 6 Brigade, operating under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have apprehended the owner of an abandoned vehicle linked to an arms recovery in Taraba State. According to a statement released on Tuesday by Captain Oni Olubodunde, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the suspect, Mallam Abubakar Adamu, was arrested on Sunday along with an accomplice in Wukari Local Government Area.
This development follows the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a vehicle in Bantaje town, also in Wukari. In a follow-up operation, the troops tracked down and arrested Adamu, the vehicle owner, on September 8, 2024, after gathering intelligence regarding his involvement in the incident.
Captain Olubodunde disclosed that during interrogation, Adamu admitted to having sent the driver of the vehicle—who is still on the run—to transport the weapon from Doruwa village to Wukari. He was arrested in Mutum Biyu, in possession of two mobile phones. Also apprehended was Mallam Isah Ibrahim, a union driver identified as an accomplice.
Both suspects are currently being held for further questioning, with investigators working to uncover the full extent of their criminal activities and locate the fugitive driver.
In response to the successful operation, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised the troops’ dedication to ensuring peace and security in Taraba State. He emphasized that the arrest underscores the military’s commitment to combating crime in the region.
