Two female employees, Amos Janet (35) and Ajakaye Ronke, have been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly conspiring to steal over N10 million. The funds were reportedly diverted under the false pretense of issuing loans to customers.
According to P.M. Express, the incident occurred at Match Forward Nigeria Limited, located on Dada Street, Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos, where both suspects were employed.
The Police reported that between February and August 2024, Janet allegedly fraudulently obtained and stole N7,380,000 from the company under the guise of providing loans to customers. This claim was later found to be false. The Police further stated that her actions constituted an offense under Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Similarly, the second suspect, Ronke, is accused of obtaining and diverting N3,240,000 from the company in a similar fashion, also violating Section 314 of the same law.
The fraudulent activities were discovered after an internal audit was conducted by the company, revealing that a significant amount of money was missing. The matter was then reported to the Area G Police Command in Ogba, leading to the arrest of both women. They were detained and interrogated concerning the missing funds.
Following the investigation, the Police determined that both women were responsible and charged them with the offense at the Ogba Magistrate Court. During the court session, both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In response, the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, requested a trial date to enable the Police to present evidence proving that the defendants committed the alleged offense.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, granted bail to the accused women, requiring two sureties who must provide proof of their livelihood and tax payment. The court also ordered that their residential addresses be verified before bail is finalized.
The case was adjourned to October 20, 2024, for mention. In the meantime, both defendants were remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center in Lagos, pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
