A vigilante group in Kebbi State successfully apprehended two suspected bandits at the Janruwa grazing reserve in the Kanya area of Danko Wasagu. The Chairman of Danko Wasagu Local Government, Hussaini Aliyu Bena, informed reporters in Birnin Kebbi that he received a call from the District Head of Kanya about the arrest. According to the report, the vigilante group was patrolling the area when they encountered the suspects.
Upon receiving the news, Bena immediately rushed to the scene and gave clear instructions that the suspects should not be harmed. Instead, he directed that they be handed over to the police. He also contacted the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police to notify him about the situation.
During the operation, one of the bandits attempted to flee but was recaptured with the help of local residents. Bena revealed that a member of the vigilante group fired at the fleeing suspect, but the bullets failed to penetrate him, raising suspicion of the suspect’s use of charms or other protective means.
The chairman praised the state government for providing logistical support to the security operatives, including the vigilante group. He assured the joint security team that the government would continue to back their efforts in eliminating criminal elements from the area. He also urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
The Kebbi State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the arrest of the two bandits.
