Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a well-known figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State and a former member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), has made an urgent appeal to President Bola Tinubu. He stressed the need for swift action to tackle the growing hunger and economic hardship gripping Nigerians.

Speaking in Osogbo, Oyintiloye acknowledged the President’s current efforts but emphasized the importance of more immediate and effective measures. He expressed concern that the rising costs of food, petrol, electricity, and cooking gas were worsening the economic situation for many citizens.

Oyintiloye also highlighted the recent hike in fuel prices, warning that it would only add to the existing struggles faced by Nigerians. He urged President Tinubu to eliminate any bureaucratic hurdles that are delaying the rollout of crucial relief policies.

“The economic suffering of the masses is becoming unbearable, and the President must act swiftly. Nigerians are hungry,” Oyintiloye stated.

He further raised concerns about the delay in implementing the suspension of customs duties and taxes on imported food items, a policy aimed at reducing food inflation. Despite promises from the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, that the initiative would commence once guidelines were set, Oyintiloye pointed out that nearly two months had passed without any progress.

“The President is doing his best, but those in charge of policy implementation should not become obstacles,” he added.

He specifically mentioned that the 150-day duty-free window for the importation of essential items such as maize, husked brown rice, and wheat had yet to take effect, describing the situation as unacceptable.

Oyintiloye concluded by calling for continued support for President Tinubu, urging Nigerians to remain patient. He assured that while some policies might seem painful now, they are designed to bring long-term relief and prosperity.
