Israeli fighter jets targeted military positions of the Houthi regime near Al Hudaydah Port in Yemen, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced. This action was a response to the numerous attacks launched against Israel in recent months.
Shortly before the IDF’s statement, Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported airstrikes on oil facilities in Hodeidah, mentioning casualties and injuries. The strikes follow a drone attack in Tel Aviv on Friday, which resulted in one death and at least 10 injuries.
The Houthis claimed their attack was a retaliation for Israel’s actions in Gaza. A spokesperson stated the operation utilized a new drone designed to evade interception systems. While the Houthis have previously attacked shipping to show solidarity with Gaza, this marks the first instance of Israel striking Yemen.
