Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has revealed a concerning case involving a fraudulent mobilization from the University of Calabar, Cross River State. According to Ahmed, one of the individuals fraudulently mobilized for the NYSC program was a bread seller who had never attended the university.

This revelation follows the recent voiding of 101 certificates by the NYSC, bringing the total number of invalidated certificates to 178. Ahmed commended Professor Florence Obi, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, for her transparency and proactive approach in alerting the NYSC about the issue of unqualified graduates being mobilized from her institution.

Ahmed emphasized the NYSC’s commitment to thoroughly investigating and cleaning up its mobilization process. He explained that the Vice-Chancellor had reported discrepancies in the list of graduates, including names that should not have appeared. “The Vice-Chancellor came forward to report that certain names on the list were incorrect,” Ahmed said. “Upon review, we determined that their certificates would be invalidated. We even found a case where a bread seller was included on the graduation list, demonstrating the extent of the problem with fraudulent entries.”
