In a shocking incident early Friday, terrorists raided Matusgi village in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting at least 10 people. The attack, which occurred around 2 a.m., left the community reeling in fear as heavily armed assailants fired indiscriminately to intimidate residents.

Among those kidnapped was a patient who was still receiving treatment, connected to an intravenous drip. This brazen abduction has plunged the community into a state of uncertainty and panic.

While local sources suggest that as many as 30 people might have been taken, the police have countered this, asserting that the number of kidnapped individuals stands at 10. “They didn’t kill anyone, but they did shoot to frighten us. Around 30 people, including a sick man and a woman, were taken. We have no idea where they’ve been taken, and the whole village is terrified,” one resident told SaharaReporters.

The exact reasons behind this latest wave of kidnappings remain unclear. However, authorities speculate that the kidnappers may be aiming for ransom payments. Yezid Abubakar, the State Police Command Spokesman, confirmed the attack, stating that efforts are underway to ensure the safe return of those abducted. “The attack happened around 2:30 a.m., and 10 people were kidnapped. The police are working hard to rescue them unharmed,” he said in a phone conversation with SaharaReporters.

This incident follows a deadly assault in May in Anka Local Government Area, also in Zamfara State, where terrorists killed at least 49 people over a five-day period. During that attack, five villages suffered heavy casualties, with fatalities reported in Farar-Kasa, Dangulbi, Duhuwa, Tsatsomawa, and Yar Sabaya villages. Residents from the area shared that the terrorists had been terrorizing the local communities for days before the final onslaught.
