As the sun sets over Nigeria, citizens find themselves engulfed in economic turmoil, struggling to make ends meet due to the recent increments in school fees, fuel prices, and food costs. The policies implemented by President Bola Tinubu have caused waves of discontent among the populace, pushing many to the brink of despair. As a nation, we are faced with an ever-growing burden, with the poor bearing the heaviest load, making it difficult for them to breathe.

The call for protest against these policy measures grows louder each passing day, as the people’s livelihoods are jeopardized, and the dream of a prosperous nation becomes increasingly distant. The President’s rationale for ending the fuel subsidy may have seemed promising on paper, but the reality is far from reassuring. The trillions of Naira saved from the subsidy’s removal were meant to be redirected towards essential services, such as healthcare, education, and housing, but little has been seen of this promise. Instead, the burden of high fuel prices has fallen squarely on the shoulders of the already struggling citizens.

The exchange rate system, once hailed as a solution to currency challenges, has now become a breeding ground for currency speculation, benefiting only a select few at the expense of the masses. This inequality perpetuates the cycle of poverty and hinders Nigeria’s progress towards becoming an egalitarian society.

The government’s move to the court to restrain the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) from going on strike is concerning. While the NLC is fighting for the welfare of the people, the court cannot suppress the voice of the masses seeking justice. The people’s right to peaceful protest and the freedom of expression is enshrined in the constitution and should not be stifled.

As citizens, we must recognize that the current economic situation is a result of years of mismanagement and a lack of accountability. It is not enough for the government to seek temporary solutions while ignoring the root causes of our economic challenges. The path to economic stability and growth lies in the eradication of corruption and the implementation of sustainable policies that prioritize the welfare of the people.

To combat the rising costs of living, the government must invest in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Allocating funds to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will promote economic growth and create job opportunities for the youth, paving the way for a brighter future.

As citizens, we have the power to demand accountability from our leaders. Protesting peacefully is not just a right; it is a duty to hold our government accountable and to advocate for the well-being of all Nigerians, especially the most vulnerable in our society.

We urge the President and his administration to listen to the cries of the people and address the root causes of our economic challenges. Only through genuine dialogue, transparency, and a commitment to the welfare of the nation can we hope to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

In solidarity, we call on all Nigerians to come together and peacefully demand change. Let us raise our voices, not only for ourselves but for future generations, ensuring that Nigeria’s promise of prosperity becomes a reality for all. Together, we can shape a nation where no one is left behind, where everyone can breathe freely, and where hope for a better tomorrow is not a distant dream but a tangible reality.

May we stand united, bound by a common purpose, and forge a path towards a brighter and more prosperous Nigeria for all.
