In a harrowing incident that left an Abuja family shaken, four men wearing vests bearing the inscription “NPF,” suspected to belong to the Nigeria Police Force, stormed their home in the Bako area of Kwali Area Council on Thursday. The intrusion, which occurred at 7 am, sent shockwaves through the peaceful household.
Kehinde, a member of the family, recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating that the men arrived in a grey Sienna car without any arrest warrant. They proceeded to ransack the house, snatching personal belongings, including phones, clothes, and their mother’s handbag, which contained an estimated N300,000.
The situation took a darker turn when two of Kehinde’s brothers were handcuffed, and the assailants sought to take them to an undisclosed location. Their elder brother, Ahmed, courageously resisted, but he, too, was forcibly taken by the intruders.
During the chaotic encounter, Kehinde’s mother was also subjected to assault, adding further distress to the family’s traumatic experience.
“They didn’t provide any explanation for their actions; they just assaulted everyone,” Kehinde recounted. The men in the police vests remained silent even when confronted about their motives.
In a courageous attempt to protect her sons, Kehinde’s mother confronted the intruders, drawing attention from concerned onlookers. This diversion prompted the men to release Kehinde’s brothers and hastily flee the scene, taking their stolen belongings with them. However, they did not hesitate to fire shots as they made their escape.
In the aftermath of the incident, the family sought help by reporting the incident to nearby police stations in Kwali and Gwagwalada. However, they were met with confusion, as the officers claimed not to have knowledge of the perpetrators.
When questioned about the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, provided a brief response, promising to investigate and provide further information. However, as of the time of reporting, no updates had been received from her.
The family remains traumatized and bewildered by the unexplained intrusion, demanding answers and justice for the unwarranted violation of their home and sense of security. As the search for the assailants continues, the community echoes their call for swift action and accountability.
