Organisers of the upcoming nationwide #EndBadGovt protest have issued a stern warning to security agencies: any attack on protesters will result in a demand for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation. They emphasized that if any protester is harmed in any way, they will call for Tinubu and his entire cabinet to step down.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, and State Security Service, have been issuing threats against the protesters, warning them not to proceed. These agencies are concerned that the #EndBadGovt protest could result in deaths and destruction similar to the October 2020 #EndSARS protest and the Kenyan uprising.
However, a flyer circulating on social media advertises the upcoming protest and outlines a 10-point agenda. The protesters have made it clear that any harm to a protester will lead to relentless demands for the resignation of Tinubu and his cabinet. Despite threats and allegations from government officials claiming that the protest is sponsored by foreign mercenaries, the organisers are determined to proceed with the protest on August 1, 2024.
The organisers stated that the protest is driven by the widespread hunger and hardship in the country, which they attribute to the harsh economic policies implemented by President Bola Tinubu since he took office on May 29, 2023.
