Akure, Ondo State β€” Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 127 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. The arrests occurred during a coordinated sting operation at a “Yahoo Party” held simultaneously at Signature and Abah Clubs on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

The EFCC’s intervention followed credible intelligence reports indicating that the alleged party, originally planned for Wednesday, June 5, 2024, was rescheduled to Saturday in an attempt to evade detection by security and intelligence networks. Despite the change in date, EFCC operatives successfully executed the raid in the early morning hours.

During the operation, the suspects were found in possession of various items linked to fraudulent activities. The haul included ten exotic cars, numerous phones, laptops, a motorcycle, wristwatches, and a plethora of incriminating documents. These items are currently being examined by EFCC investigators.

The suspects have reportedly provided valuable information to the investigators, which is expected to aid in the ongoing probe. The EFCC has assured the public that those apprehended will face legal proceedings as soon as the investigation is completed.

This operation underscores the EFCC’s commitment to combating internet fraud and other forms of financial crimes across Nigeria. The agency continues to urge citizens to report suspicious activities to help curtail the prevalence of cybercrime in the country.
