The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a statement through its head of public relations, Mr. Peter Afunanya, raising concerns about planned gatherings in Abuja and Lagos State that aim to portray the service and the government in a negative light. The groups involved are said to be carrying placards calling for the immediate release of Emefiele, former CBN governor.
According to the DSS, there are also reports of a plot to infiltrate their ranks with disloyal staff members, intending to use them for subversive activities against the agency’s leadership. The DSS has warned the individuals involved to abandon their plans, stating that they are being closely monitored and will be apprehended.
In response to allegations of denying access to Emefiele, the DSS clarified that they have granted the former CBN governor’s family, medical officials, and appropriate individuals access to him since his detention, even before the court order was issued. The DSS emphasized that Emefiele has not been denied access to his lawyers, medical officers, or relatives.
The DSS reiterated its commitment to following standard procedures in handling suspects and investigations, operating transparently and professionally, and upholding the rule of law. Despite the ongoing matters, the DSS assured Nigerians of its professionalism and vowed not to be distracted or intimidated.
The statement from the DSS serves as a reassurance of their dedication to maintaining security and adhering to lawful procedures, as well as a warning to those attempting to undermine their efforts.
