A 74-year-old woman, Madam Alicia Afolayan, and a driver, Kabiru Yakubu, have shared their harrowing experiences after being rescued from kidnappers in Akunu, Akoko area of Ondo State. They were among six people abducted from a group of eight passengers on Tuesday, during their journey between Akunu in the Akoko Northeast council area of Ondo and Ayere in the Ijumu council of Kogi State.
The victims, who were traveling to Abuja, were freed through the combined efforts of the Nigerian Army and the state security outfit, Amotekun. According to our correspondent, the rescue operation was successful after security personnel thoroughly searched the forest where the victims were held.
Madam Afolayan and the driver recounted that their vehicle, carrying eight passengers, was attacked and they were kidnapped at gunpoint. The incident occurred around 7 pm, and they were rescued by approximately 10 pm.
