The chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State, Hashim Dungurawa, has accused President Bola Tinubu of causing instability in the state by attempting to impose Aminu Ado Bayero as the 15th Emir of Kano due to their shared Yoruba heritage.
During a press briefing on Sunday in Kano, where he highlighted the NNPP’s achievements over the past year, Dungurawa argued that there was no justification for Emir Bayero to receive special protection from the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, and other security agencies, especially against the interests of the state government. He cautioned that President Tinubu’s alleged interference in the Kano Emirate dispute could have negative repercussions for him in the 2027 elections.
“Your perceived stance on the ongoing Kano Emirate tussle will backfire in 2027. If you believe you can use this to gain favor in Kano, you will realize your mistake when the time comes. If the President thinks he can rely on a few of his kinsmen in Kano and Bayero’s Yoruba lineage to maintain the deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero in the state, let him wait for 2027. We will show him that those people will not help him,” Dungurawa warned.
Dungurawa urged the President to resolve the Kano Emirate conflict by ensuring the removal of the deposed Emir from Kano. He also emphasized that the NNPP plans to field their national leader, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as their presidential candidate in the 2027 election, expressing confidence that Kwankwaso will be the next president of Nigeria.
Additionally, Dungurawa called for a review of the 2019 election results, asserting that the former governor of Kano State and current APC national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, did not legitimately win his second term as governor.
