Three people were burnt beyond recognition in a tragic accident on Sunday night at Mandilas Bus Stop, Iyana Isolo, off Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos State. Their remains were subsequently taken by officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) for transfer to the morgue.

The driver of a speeding Mercedes Benz SUV, along with two occupants, died after ramming into a stationary truck. An eyewitness, Mr. Abdulfatai Wasiu, attributed the fatalities to the driver’s excessive speed before the collision with the truck. A male adult inside the car was severely burnt and died from the impact of the crash.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed the incident. “Upon arrival at the scene at 11:38 pm, an accident involving a Mercedes Benz SUV with an unknown registration number and a truck carrying a 40-foot container was encountered. Preliminary investigation revealed that the SUV collided with the truck due to speeding. The impact of this collision caused a fire outbreak from the car engine,” Oke-Osanyitolu explained.

As of 9 am on Monday, normal traffic movement had been restored in the area following the evacuation of the three burnt victims trapped inside the car. The remains were taken by SEHMU officials for onward transfer to the morgue. Additionally, the truck’s flat body and the burnt vehicle’s carcass were towed to the LASTMA Yard.

Emergency responders at the scene included the Fire Unit, Lagos State Rescue and Fire Service, SEHMU, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Police, and Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
