
In a shocking incident, Mr. Takai Shamang, a former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), was kidnapped in his hometown of Biniki, located in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The abduction took place around 8:00 pm on Friday at Shamang’s residence.
Mr. Shamang, 78, also served as the President General of the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers, now known as the National Union of Electricity Employees, from 1982 to 1989. His contributions to the labor movement in Nigeria have been significant over the years.
His daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, confirmed the news to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). She expressed concern over her father’s safety and urged authorities to take swift action to secure his release.
In addition to his labor union activities, Mr. Shamang is the President and Founder of Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans, and Needy Foundation, widely recognized as the GAWON Foundation. This organization is dedicated to supporting vulnerable groups in society.
The community remains tense as efforts are underway to locate and rescue Mr. Shamang. The authorities are yet to provide further details on the investigation.
