The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced a shortlist of 98 lawyers for the esteemed rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). This list includes some of the country’s most renowned legal professionals, such as Prof. Abdulkarim Kana, Monday Ubani, Kunle Edun, and Dr. Rapulu Nduka.
According to the official document, the shortlist comprises 87 lawyers in the advocate category and 11 in the academic category.
Notable figures on the list include Wendy Kuku, legal adviser to the Independent National Electoral Commission, prominent human rights lawyer Terkaa Aondo, and Paul Daudu, chairman of the NBA Bwari branch.
The LPPC has invited the general public to provide feedback on the integrity, competence, and reputation of the shortlisted lawyers. However, the committee emphasized that the publication of the names does not guarantee their success in the selection process.
The document specifies that any complaints must be accompanied by a verifying affidavit, which must be deposed before a Superior Court of Record in Nigeria or a Notary public, and submitted in twenty copies. The Supreme Court will swear in successful candidates during its annual new legal year ceremony.
