Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Police, has stated that engaging in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 13 is considered defilement and is punishable by law.
Edafe emphasized that parents who attempt to conceal such incidents may face charges for aiding and abetting. This warning was issued in a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, June 30.
In his message, Edafe wrote: “Sexual intercourse with either a boy or a girl under the age of 13 years is defilement, and the punishment, if found guilty, is life imprisonment. Section 218 CC specifies that consent is irrelevant, and these offences cannot be settled out of court. Swearing to an affidavit in court will not suffice. In fact, any parent who tries to cover up defilement could be charged to court for aiding and abetting.”
