The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a strict enforcement policy targeting vehicles without number plates and those operating beyond designated hours. This action responds to rising public safety concerns linked to such violations.

In a press statement, SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police, highlighted the growing issue of vehicles on the roads with either single or no number plates. Additionally, car dealers have been operating outside the legally allowed hours of 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, as stipulated in Section 25(5) of the Federal Capital Territory Road Transport Regulation Act, 2005. SP Adeh noted the connection between these violations and criminal activities, including armed robbery, commonly known as “one chance.”

Commissioner of Police for the FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, has ordered immediate enforcement. “Vehicles found without number plates or with only one plate visible will be impounded immediately,” stated CP Igweh. He also warned that drivers caught violating this directive will face arrest and prosecution according to the law.

CP Igweh further cautioned car dealers against unauthorized parking and operating beyond the prescribed hours. “Violators among car dealers will face severe legal consequences,” he stated.

He emphasized the FCT Police’s commitment to ensuring safety and security in the territory and urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The Commissioner stressed that this crackdown aims to enhance public safety and reduce criminal activities associated with unregistered vehicles. He assured the public that these measures would be rigorously enforced to maintain law and order throughout Abuja.
