Corruption runs rampant among Nigerian politicians due to the absence of consequences for their actions. This lack of accountability encourages politicians to view public office as a means to amass personal wealth rather than serve the people. They move from one position to another without demonstrating any tangible achievements, relying on the metaphorical concept of the “National Cake” to justify their exploitation of public funds.

Corruption extends beyond politicians to civil servants, contractors, and others involved in handling public funds, perpetuating economic inequality and hindering national development. Despite Nigeria’s vast oil wealth, the majority of its citizens remain impoverished, as corrupt elites enrich themselves at the expense of the nation.

Efforts to curb corruption have been hindered by the conventional practice of swearing in officials with the Bible or Quran, which lacks immediate consequences for misconduct. Therefore, it is imperative to introduce a more stringent oath-taking process involving deadly deities to ensure honesty and accountability among public officials.

This proposed oath should apply to all individuals associated with public funds, regardless of their religious beliefs, to safeguard the interests of the nation and its people. Without such measures, corrupt politicians will continue to exploit their positions for personal gain, perpetuating poverty and inequality.

Nigerians must demand accountability from their leaders and insist on radical measures to combat corruption, including the adoption of traditional oath-taking ceremonies. Only then can the nation break free from the cycle of corruption and ensure justice for all its citizens.
