Human rights activist and One Love Foundation Convener, Chief Patrick Eholor, has launched another legal action with a notice of appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court Abuja, presided over by Justice J. Omotosho, validating the appointment of Mrs. Hannatu Musawa as Minister for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.
Chief Eholor’s legal team, led by human rights lawyer Barrister Samuel Ihensekhien Jr., filed this notice of appeal challenging the Federal High Court judgment on several grounds. Chief Eholor argues that Musawa’s simultaneous roles as an NYSC member and a federal minister violate provisions of the NYSC Act and bye-laws.
On June 21, 2024, Patrick Eholor and his legal team lodged the notice of appeal at the Federal High Court in Abuja for onward transmission to the Abuja Court of Appeal.
Chief Eholor expressed dissatisfaction with the Federal High Court’s judgment, stating his firm belief in the constitutional process and faith in the Nigerian judiciary. He emphasized that the appeal aims to contest Justice James Omotosho’s entire judgment on the matter.
“It is now unequivocally clear, and I am further persuaded by the authoritative pronouncements of the Nigeria Supreme Court in the 2019 Modibbo vs. Usman case, that a Youth Corps member lacks the competence to contest any election in Nigeria or engage in partisan politics, as exemplified by Mrs. Hannatu Musawa in this instance,” Chief Eholor remarked. He affirmed his readiness to pursue justice vigorously in this matter.
