Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has urged churches to be vigilant about the sources of donations they receive. He emphasized the importance of inquiring about the origins of financial contributions during the inaugural lecture held in honor of the late senior pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Taiwo Odukoya, on Saturday, June 15.
Osinbajo, who delivered a lecture titled “Strengthening the Christian Voice in Government or Public Office,” stressed that churches must teach and uphold good values that Christians can adhere to, especially when they serve in public office.
In his address, the former Vice-President questioned the practices surrounding financial contributions from various sources, including politicians. “How often do those who receive money from politicians and from other sources ask the source of the money?” he asked.
Osinbajo highlighted a critical issue, pointing out that the number of Christians in government, business, or professional roles is less important than the principles they uphold. “So the question is not how many Christians are in government, business, or professions? The question is, what are they equipped with? What are the relevant principles of the gospel that they know and apply in their daily and professional or public lives?” he concluded.
Through his speech, Osinbajo called for a greater emphasis on integrity and ethical conduct within the Christian community, especially among those in positions of influence.
