Chronicles Reporters has learned of a tragic incident in Adamawa State, where a Nigerian couple stands accused of torturing their daughter to death. The couple, identified as Yakubu Isa Arisko, aged 36, and Veronica Linus, aged 34, allegedly conspired to murder their daughter, Eunice Yakubu, on grounds of suspected witchcraft.

Reports indicate that the 9-year-old girl was bound with a rope and left exposed to the sun after being accused by her stepmother, Veronica Linus, of bewitching her. Additionally, it is reported that the stepmother, who is four months pregnant, poured hot water on the child, ultimately leading to her tragic demise.

According to SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesperson for Adamawa State Police Command, the incident occurred on April 13, 2024, in Gidan Madara, Mubi South Local Government Area. Nguroje revealed that the accused man had previously divorced the deceased’s mother over similar witchcraft allegations, subsequently marrying Veronica, who joined him in accusing the child of witchcraft.

The perpetrators have been apprehended and will face charges of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide under sections 60 and 192 of the penal code of Adamawa State. This harrowing incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of superstition and the importance of protecting vulnerable members of society.
