Sunday Adedayo Asefon, a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Student Engagement, has been accused of brutally assaulting his 10-year-old daughter in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, barely a day after he was named in allegations surrounding the violent attack on human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and members of his team.

Asefon has reportedly refused to honour a police invitation over the child abuse allegations, with sources familiar with the investigation claiming that he left Ekiti State shortly after a formal petition was submitted against him.

The alleged assault occurred on October 31, 2026, at the family residence in the Odo-Ado area of Ado-Ekiti.

A petition dated November 2, 2026, and submitted to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, by A. J. Oguntuase & Co. on behalf of Asefon’s estranged wife, Mrs. Damilola Tunmise Asefon, and their daughter, Michelle Shileola Asefon, accused the presidential aide of physically assaulting the minor and leaving her with multiple injuries.

According to the petition obtained by ChroniclesReporters, Asefon allegedly stormed the family residence without prior notification and attacked his daughter while her mother was washing the children’s clothes behind the house.

The lawyers alleged that the presidential aide beat the 10-year-old girl mercilessly, leaving her bleeding from her ears and head.

The petition further stated that the child’s mother subsequently took her to the Odo-Ado Police Division and the Police Clinic in Ado-Ekiti for medical attention.

A video obtained by ChroniclesReporters reportedly shows the young girl bleeding from her right ear while screaming in distress following the alleged assault.

Describing the incident as child abuse, gender-based violence and a violation of the minor’s fundamental human rights, the lawyers urged the police commissioner to urgently investigate the allegations and ensure that the suspect is brought to justice.

In the petition, the lawyers alleged that Asefon had violently stormed the matrimonial residence, where his wife and their two children had reportedly been living without his regular presence for years.

They wrote that he “violently beat hell out of our herein referred to second Client Michelle Shileola Asefon mercilessly to stupor leaving with blood rushing out of her ears, head and flowing body generally.”

The petition identifies Damilola as Asefon’s legally married wife, although the couple have reportedly been living separately for several years.

It also disclosed that Asefon filed a divorce petition on August 19, 2026, which was pending before the Ekiti State High Court in Ido-Ekiti when the latest complaint was submitted.

The lawyers further accused the presidential aide of a history of domestic violence involving his estranged wife and children, alleging that the October 31 incident was not the first time he had physically assaulted members of his family.

According to the petition, previous incidents of violence allegedly left the complainants with serious injuries requiring hospital treatment.

The lawyers specifically claimed that Asefon had previously assaulted his estranged wife before filing the divorce proceedings, leaving her with injuries that necessitated medical attention.

They said the earlier incident was reported to the then Commissioner of Police.

The petition also accused Asefon of neglecting his parental responsibilities, alleging that he rarely visited or maintained regular contact with his two children.

The lawyers further claimed that the presidential aide refused to provide assistance when his 10-year-old daughter recently required specialised medical attention at Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital over an eye condition that reportedly affected her vision.

The complaint also raised allegations concerning Asefon’s relationship with another woman while his marriage to Damilola remained legally subsisting.

Meanwhile, fresh allegations have emerged concerning the handling of the child abuse petition by the Ekiti State Police Command.

Police sources reportedly alleged that Commissioner Falade reluctantly assigned the petition to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following pressure from the complainants’ lawyers.

However, rather than ensuring that Asefon appeared before investigators, the commissioner allegedly alerted the presidential aide to the complaint, allowing him to leave the state.

“After the commissioner grudgingly assigned the petition for investigation, Asefon was tipped off and left the state,” a source familiar with the matter reportedly told ChroniclesReporters.

The source further claimed that Asefon had since failed to honour the police invitation and had not been apprehended.

In another development, police sources alleged that Asefon attempted to justify the alleged assault by accusing his daughter of soliciting money from members of the public on TikTok.

According to the sources, the presidential aide reportedly claimed that the 10-year-old girl had been begging people for financial assistance on the social media platform.

The latest allegations against Asefon have also drawn attention because of his reported connection to the violent attack on Sowore and his team in Ado-Ekiti on October 30, 2026.

Armed men reportedly attacked the activist and members of his entourage at Tawakalitu Restaurant in the Dalimore area of the Ekiti State capital.

Sowore has publicly accused Asefon of participating in the planning and coordination of the attack, which he described as an assassination attempt.

The AAC presidential candidate also identified individuals allegedly associated with Asefon and the Ekiti State chapter of the City Boy Movement as participants in the violence.

Among those identified was Ayodeji Akintade Ifeoluwa, popularly known as AK, whom Sowore’s team accused of being captured in video footage wielding a machete during the attack.

The Ekiti State Police Command has faced criticism over its handling of the October 30 incident, particularly its initial description of the violence as an altercation and allegations that CCTV recordings from the restaurant were removed or erased.

Sowore has subsequently demanded the removal or suspension of Commissioner Falade pending an independent investigation into the police command’s handling of the incident.

The lawyers representing Asefon’s estranged wife and daughter had specifically called for urgent police intervention, a thorough investigation and prosecution, warning that the safety and fundamental rights of their clients remained at risk.

The allegations against Asefon, including the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault, his reported failure to honour the police invitation and claims of police interference, have raised further questions about accountability and the handling of complaints involving politically influential individuals.
