The Nigeria Police Force has directed the deployment of 160 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on secondment, according to an internal police directive dated October 5, 2026.
The directive, referenced DTO:051750/10/2026 and issued by the Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, ordered the affected personnel to report for briefing ahead of their redeployment to the EFCC.
The order was addressed to senior police formations and commands, including the Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) overseeing the Police Mobile Force (MOPOL), Protect, Terrorism Force and Border Force; INTERPOL; Veterinary Unit; Force Headquarters Annex, Lagos; AIG Zone 7; and Commissioners of Police across various commands.
Also copied were Federal Operations Units, the Bomb Disposal Units in Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, FCT, Asaba, Jos, Lafia and Katsina, as well as the Welfare Department, Departmental Police Officers, Force Intelligence Department, Intelligence Response Team, Police Mobile Force and other relevant formations.
The directive cited an earlier approval contained in a letter from the Inspector-General of Police, referenced CB:3380/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.5/122 and dated September 16, 2026, as the basis for the secondment.
According to the police order, the affected personnel are to be released by their respective formations “as a matter of urgency” and instructed to report for briefing and subsequent redeployment to the EFCC.
Commanders were specifically directed to warn and release the personnel to report on or before Tuesday, October 13, 2026, for the required briefing and redeployment.
The directive further warned that the order should be treated as “very important” and complied with without further reminder.
The deployment involves officers and personnel drawn from the Police Force’s EOD capability, a specialised unit responsible for bomb detection, explosive ordnance disposal and responses to explosive-related threats.
