Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two Togolese nationals and seized illicit drugs and pharmaceutical opioids valued at more than ₦3 billion in a week-long operation across several states in Nigeria.
The agency identified the two Togolese suspects as 35-year-old Yinusa Abdulsamad and 33-year-old Fatai Baba, who were arrested on Saturday, September 26, 2026, along the Iganna–Ilero Road in Iganna, Oyo State.
According to the NDLEA, the suspects were intercepted while transporting 305.6 kilogrammes of skunk concealed in two pickup trucks.
The agency said the vehicles were allegedly being used as part of a cross-border trafficking operation for moving cannabis sourced from Ghana into Nigeria through the Oyo axis.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives at the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport uncovered a major consignment of pharmaceutical opioids during a joint examination of three monitored consignments on Tuesday, September 22.
The agency said the consignments contained a total of 2.55 million pills comprising Tramaking 225mg, Tramaking 250mg and Royal Tapentadol 250mg, with a combined gross weight of 1,640.55 kilogrammes.
The consignments, according to the NDLEA, were imported from India and Bangladesh and arrived in Nigeria through Qatar Airways, RwandAir and Ethiopian Airlines.
In Bauchi State, operatives arrested 35-year-old Umar Hamidu and 45-year-old Abdulkarim Salihu along the Maiduguri bypass.
The suspects were allegedly found with 300 compressed blocks of skunk weighing 262.5 kilogrammes. The drugs were concealed in a false-bottom compartment of a truck with registration number MUB757 YH.
The NDLEA also reported the destruction of two cannabis farms at Eko Camp in Ilushi, Edo State, in an operation conducted with the support of soldiers on Wednesday, September 23.
The agency estimated the combined yield of the two farms at 1,360.23 kilogrammes of cannabis.
In Lagos, NDLEA operatives raided Anifowoshe Street in Mushin on Saturday, arresting 36-year-old Odumabo Kehinde and 40-year-old Obiekwe Chioma.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 3.4 kilogrammes of skunk, according to the agency.
On the same day, NDLEA officers intercepted 58-year-old Ugwu Johnson at Ebute-Ero motor park.
The agency said Johnson was found in possession of 5.92 kilogrammes of skunk, 2,400 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 8,400 tablets of nitrazepam and 40,000 tablets of tramadol.
At the Seme border in Badagry, Lagos State, operatives also arrested five men in connection with a consignment of 420 cartons of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas.
The agency said the consignment weighed 1,688.4 kilogrammes and that two vehicles allegedly used to transport the substance from the border into Lagos were also seized.
The five suspects were identified as 40-year-old Kingsley John, 44-year-old John Chibuike Okeke, 40-year-old Lamidi Ismaila, 42-year-old Babatunde Samuel and 47-year-old Afeesu Idowu.
The NDLEA said the arrests, seizures and destruction of cannabis farms formed part of its ongoing operations against illicit drug trafficking and the movement of controlled substances across the country.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed the latest operations in a statement issued on Sunday.
