The Alimosho Next Generation Forum (ANGF) has marked the birthday of former Lagos State House of Assembly member, Hon. Abdulrahmon Bisi Yusuff, using the occasion to revisit his political journey and record of public service in Alimosho.
In a statement signed by its Convener, Michael Ibuoye, the group recounted Yusuff’s two-term tenure as the pioneer Executive Chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja Local Council Development Area (LCDA), as well as his subsequent 12 years representing Alimosho Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Rather than focusing solely on the birthday celebration, ANGF used the occasion to highlight projects and interventions it said characterised Yusuff’s years in local government administration and legislative representation.
The group said Yusuff’s chairmanship featured interventions in education, infrastructure and youth development, including the construction of classrooms, establishment of a public primary school at Baruwa, provision of boreholes and modern toilets, and construction of a public library in Ayobo.
According to the forum, the library was stocked with about 25,000 books, while the administration also provided free computer education to about 1,000 students at the council secretariat.
ANGF also drew attention to road and drainage projects undertaken during the chairmanship, citing College Road drainage and the Megida-Alaja-Olayemi axis among the areas where infrastructure interventions were carried out.
Yusuff later moved into the Lagos State House of Assembly, where he represented Alimosho Constituency I from 2011 to 2023.
BusinessDay previously described him as the longest-serving lawmaker from Alimosho during that period. His 12-year legislative career also saw him occupy leadership and committee positions in the Assembly and participate in issues concerning infrastructure and other constituency matters.
The forum said his activities extended beyond legislative duties, particularly through healthcare interventions organised under the Prince Hope Turns to Reality Foundation.
It noted that the foundation organised free medical outreaches involving medical treatment, surgeries, eye screening and distribution of eyeglasses to residents.
Reports published in 2018 and 2019 put the number of beneficiaries of the health programmes at tens of thousands. The 2018 edition was reported to have targeted about 40,000 residents, while a 2019 edition was reported to have provided healthcare services to about 30,000 people.
ANGF further cited skills-acquisition programmes during Yusuff’s chairmanship and later constituency initiatives connected to education, employment and empowerment.
The group also recalled his advocacy for road and infrastructure improvements in Ayobo-Ipaja and surrounding communities during his years in the Lagos Assembly.
According to ANGF, Yusuff’s political career has also been marked by legislative experience, mentorship and involvement in efforts to maintain peace within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The forum, however, framed the birthday celebration around a broader discussion of leadership and public service, saying the projects and interventions associated with Yusuff’s time in office should be examined as part of the history of governance in Alimosho.
“Humility and excellent service is top in whatever we mean. This is what Alimosho needs,” the group stated.
ANGF said the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities of public office and the role of leaders in managing people and responding to community needs.
The group described Yusuff as an “Apex Leader” in Alimosho and said his experience in local government administration and the legislature had made him a figure whose counsel and political contributions continued to attract attention within the community.
The statement also highlighted his philanthropic activities, particularly in education and healthcare, while noting that such interventions had reached residents and constituents over the years.
As he marked another year, ANGF extended birthday wishes to the former lawmaker, praying for greater wisdom, good health, peace and continued service to humanity.
