Terrorists suspected to be bandits have attacked Dantutture community in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing a resident and abducting two others during a night raid.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community on Thursday night, September 24, throwing residents into panic as they moved through the area and carried out the assault.
The victim was identified as Alhaji Saâadu Dantutture, who was killed during the attack.
Two other residents were reportedly taken away by the terrorists, with their whereabouts yet to be disclosed.
However, the attackers met resistance after troops of the Nigerian Armyâs 17 Brigade, working alongside local vigilantes, responded to the incident.
According to a security alert confirmed on Friday by security reporter Bakatsine, the troops and vigilantes engaged the terrorists in a gun battle during the operation.
Three of the suspected terrorists were reportedly killed in the encounter, while another fled from the scene, abandoning his weapon.
The intervention by the security forces and local vigilantes reportedly prevented the attackers from inflicting further casualties or carrying out additional abductions in the community.
Despite the resistance, the attack left one resident dead and two others abducted, highlighting the continuing security challenges confronting communities in parts of Katsina State.
Dantutture is among the communities in Kafur Local Government Area, where security forces have continued to conduct operations against armed groups. The 17 Brigade has previously been involved in operations against terrorists and bandits in Kafur and other parts of Katsina State.
