Convicted fake Nigerian Army general, Bolarinwa Abiodun, has reportedly been attacked by correctional warders at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre in Lagos and subsequently rushed to the Military Hospital on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, for medical treatment.
The reported incident allegedly occurred when warders went to Bolarinwa’s cell while he was sleeping.
According to a source who spoke to SaharaReporters, the warders allegedly invaded his cell and attacked him, causing him to fall to the ground.
The source claimed that the incident occurred during an alleged search for a mobile phone.
Following the reported attack, Bolarinwa was said to have been taken to the Military Hospital on Awolowo Road, where he was reportedly receiving treatment.
A family source, who spoke about the incident, said members of the family were not present when the alleged attack occurred but were later informed about what happened.
“I was not there when it happened but I was informed that warders went to him to attack him. Maybe they wanted to do all sorts of things to him. They just woke him suddenly because he was sleeping. And pushed him. He fell to the ground,” the family source said.
The source added that Bolarinwa was subsequently taken to the military hospital, where he was reportedly taken to the theatre while medical tests were conducted.
“He was rushed to the Military hospital on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. They have taken him to the theatre and we are still waiting for the results of some tests done,” the family source said.
The family source further alleged that Bolarinwa told them he had been physically assaulted during the incident.
“When I got to him, he told me that they beat him and squeezed his private parts. I don’t know why they did that kind of thing to him. Maybe they wanted to kill him,” the source alleged.
The report also quoted another source as alleging that Bolarinwa had previously been poisoned on four occasions and that there were alleged plans to kill him. The claims could not be independently verified.
Bolarinwa has been in custody since April 2022, when he was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He was arraigned before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on 13 counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretence, forgery and possession of documents containing false pretence.
The charges involved an alleged sum of N266.5 million.
The latest allegations of assault come amid Bolarinwa’s continued incarceration following the criminal proceedings against him.
As of the time of filing this report, the allegations concerning the alleged attack, previous poisoning and purported plan to kill Bolarinwa had not been independently verified. No response from the correctional authorities was included in the information available for this report.
