Land grabbing seems to have become the new goldmine in Rivers State as the commissioner of Police in the State has made himself a deliberate instrument in the hands of criminals who go about grabbing people’s lands by force with Police backing.
Several cases of land grabbing have been linked to CP Olugbenga Adepoju. Prominent on the list is that of RUMUOSI VICTORY ESTATE, situate along airport road Obio/Akpor L.G.A.
Let’s quickly get into the details.
A certain Colonel Eke Ogwumerum who collaborates directly with the commissioner of Police to grab people’s lands once secured a judgement at the Choba Customary Court over a land at RUMUAGHOLU Town, Obio/Akpor L.G.A.
He then goes about with that one judgement to grab people’s lands that have no business with the judgment he had secured, using hoodlums who work for him with the express backing of CP Olugbenga and officers of the Rivers Police command.
The Police in Rivers State went to RUMUOSI VICTORY ESTATE with Colonel Ogwumerum alongside hoodlums to bulldoze properties under the pretense that they’re executing a court judgement which has absolutely nothing to do with this very property. Residents were attacked, harassed, and brutally assaulted in the process.
These residents and property owners were left with no choice than to petition the AIG in charge of Zone 16 which the Rivers command is under, narrating their ordeals in the hands of the commissioner of Police and his land grabbing associates in the State.
When queried by the AIG over the unruly act, CP Olugbenga replied through the letter attached below and admitted that the execution of the said judgement was on the wrong property, hence admitting that the crimes of conspiracy, malicious damage, stealing, and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace had been committed.
That response exposed CP Olugbenga’s hypocrisy, because even as we speak, Olugbenga and his land grabbing associates have jettisoned all reports which have indicted them of land theft as they’re still using police officers to harass and assault property owners at RUMUOSI VICTORY ESTATE, airport road Obio/Akpor L.G.A.
It is very disturbing that a commissioner of Police who was posted to Rivers State to fight criminality is now the one enabling crimes and indulging in conducts likely to cause breach of public peace by assigning Police officers to land grabbers to keep grabbing people’s properties with brutal force.
I call on the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu to call the commissioner of Police in Rivers State to order, if not, we will very much help the public image of the Nigeria Police Force on this internet space.
This case is so deeper. By the time, I begin to reel out all the documents I’ve gathered in respect of this case, Nigerians will get to see the systemic rot that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our country’s policing and justice system.
