The Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. (Comr.) Kasim Mohammed, has appointed Barrister Babatunde Akintade as Special Assistant on Recreation and Sports Development as part of efforts to strengthen sports development and youth engagement in the area council.
The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Mustapha Yakubu.
Akintade, a legal practitioner and seasoned football administrator, is widely known for his contributions to grassroots football, sports administration and youth empowerment.
He currently serves as a Board Member representing the North Central Zone at the Nationwide League One (NLO), Vice Chairman of the Gwagwalada Football Council, a member of the FCT Football Association and Chairman of Like-Minds Football Club, an NLO side.
Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in grassroots football development, football governance and administration, talent identification, player development, youth engagement initiatives, sports programme management and stakeholder relations.
He is also the sponsor of the Bucknor Under-15 Tournament, a grassroots football competition established to provide a platform for young talents to develop their skills and gain exposure within the game.
The council expressed confidence that Akintade’s experience in sports administration and his extensive network within football circles would contribute significantly to advancing sports development in Gwagwalada.
According to the statement, his long-standing relationships with football stakeholders, investors, sports administrators, clubs and development partners position him to facilitate sponsorships, strategic partnerships and investments that will support youth-focused sporting programmes across the area council.
The appointment is expected to complement the administration’s broader agenda of promoting youth development, expanding recreational opportunities and encouraging greater private sector participation in sports development within Gwagwalada Area Council.
