The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is currently deliberating the possibility of embarking on a nationwide strike, prompted by a myriad of unresolved grievances, chief among them being the glaring absence of governing councils in all federal universities across the nation. ASUU underscored that the federal government had dissolved these crucial councils in May of the preceding year, exacerbating existing tensions and concerns within the academic community. The union firmly asserts that any subsequent actions taken to address these grievances should be attributed directly to the government’s failure to address these pressing issues.

Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the esteemed President of ASUU, expressed these apprehensions and frustrations during an ongoing press conference convened at the ASUU national secretariat in Abuja. As discussions continue to unfold, ASUU remains resolute in its commitment to advocating for the welfare and rights of its members, as well as the overall improvement of the Nigerian educational system. Further updates on this matter will be provided in due course. Stay tuned for more information as developments unfold.
