Rep. Dominic Okafor, representing Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State, refuted media reports accusing him of accepting a $140 million bribe from Binance. Addressing journalists at the House of Representatives, he threatened legal action against the media outlet responsible for the publication.
Okafor asserted that the report aimed to tarnish his reputation after he initiated a motion to investigate the escape of a Binance executive from Nigerian security custody. Concerned about the false accusations, he wrote a letter to Premium Times, copying several high-ranking officials, demanding the retraction of the information within 24 hours, or he would pursue legal recourse.
The bribery allegations arose from claims made by an executive of Binance, an online cryptocurrency trading platform, against members of a federal government committee.
