The African Action Congress (AAC) Governorship Candidate for Osun State, Olajide Esan, has strongly condemned the revocation of the bail granted to human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore by the Federal High Court in Abuja, describing the decision as “illegal, dangerous, and a direct assault on justice and constitutional freedoms.”
Esan, speaking under his campaign platform “A Covenant with the People of Osun (Irapada Osun),” said the ruling delivered by Justice Mohammed Umar on a cybercrime-related charge amounts to an attempt to silence dissenting voices in the country.
He argued that the move goes beyond Sowore as an individual, insisting it represents what he called a calculated effort to intimidate Nigerians who speak against corruption, hardship, and insecurity.
According to him, Sowore has consistently positioned himself as a voice for ordinary citizens, challenging elite corruption, demanding accountability in governance, and advocating for youth employment, food security, and better living conditions.
“This is not justice; this is persecution,” Esan said, adding that targeting Sowore sends a dangerous signal to Nigerians who are pushing for democratic reforms and better leadership.
He further called on Nigerians across political, religious, and regional divides to resist what he described as “judicial abuse” and demand the immediate restoration of Sowore’s bail.
The AAC candidate maintained that intimidation would not stop what he described as a growing national awakening, urging citizens to remain resolute in the push for systemic change ahead of future elections.
He reaffirmed solidarity with Sowore, stressing that “his struggle is the struggle of every oppressed Nigerian.”
