The Nigeria Police Force has deployed massive security personnel and operational assets across Ekiti State, including major entry and exit points, border communities, and other strategic locations, ahead of the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The extensive deployment, which covers all 2,545 polling units across the state, is part of what the police described as a comprehensive security arrangement aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free election.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the police said security operatives have been strategically positioned at polling units, critical infrastructure, major highways, and border areas to prevent security breaches and guarantee the smooth conduct of the election.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that the Force has adopted a multi-layered security architecture designed to protect voters, electoral officials, observers, and election materials throughout the electoral process.

According to him, the deployment is intended to ensure the unrestricted movement of election materials, provide rapid response to emergencies, and forestall any attempt to disrupt the exercise.

“The deployment covers all 2,545 polling units across the State, as well as critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities, and other strategic locations,” the statement noted.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, assured residents and stakeholders that officers assigned to election duties had been adequately prepared and briefed on their responsibilities.

He stated that all deployed personnel would operate professionally, impartially, and in strict compliance with the law and established rules of engagement.

The Force also issued a stern warning against electoral offences and any acts capable of undermining the integrity of the governorship election, stressing that violators would face prosecution in accordance with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws.

Citizens were urged to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and avoid actions that could threaten public order during the election period.

To enhance emergency response, the police announced the activation of a dedicated election hotline through which members of the public can report security concerns and incidents requiring immediate attention.

The Force further encouraged eligible voters to exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation while cautioning against the circulation of unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting the electoral process.

Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the Nigeria Police Force assured residents of Ekiti State of the protection of lives and property and pledged its support for the conduct of what it described as a free, fair, credible, and peaceful governorship election.
