Former Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Abu Giri, may be facing renewed public scrutiny as popular human rights activist, community organizer, and investigative journalist Manasseh B.P has announced plans to initiate legal proceedings and submit petitions to relevant anti-corruption agencies over allegations concerning the former council boss’s tenure in office.

Speaking during a public engagement, Manasseh B.P described Abu Giri as “a total failure and a curse to the council,” alleging that the former chairman left behind a legacy of underdevelopment, unanswered questions, and growing public dissatisfaction.

The activist further claimed that he intends to pursue legal avenues regarding what he described as unresolved issues connected to his alleged kidnapping, an incident he said involved individuals including Ezekiel Umar Biko, popularly known as “Zezelaga.” Manasseh alleged that the former chairman played a role in facilitating the incident, although no court has established such claims and Abu Giri has not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

According to Manasseh B.P, the end of Abu Giri’s tenure in public office presents an opportunity for greater accountability and transparency regarding decisions made during his administration.

The activist also disclosed plans to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), urging the agency to investigate what he described as the former chairman’s “sudden wealth.” He questioned how properties allegedly linked to members of Abu Giri’s family, including houses reportedly valued at over ₦150 million and hospitality businesses, were financed.

Manasseh argued that such assets deserve public scrutiny and independent investigation to determine whether they are consistent with legitimate earnings and declared sources of income. However, no official investigation findings have been made public regarding these allegations.

“The Nigerian people deserve answers. Public office is a position of trust, and every public servant must be accountable for their stewardship,” Manasseh stated.

The activist maintained that his campaign is not motivated by personal vendetta but by a commitment to transparency, justice, and accountability in governance. He vowed to continue pursuing legal and civic channels until, according to him, all outstanding questions are addressed by the appropriate authorities.

As of press time, Abu Giri had not issued any public response to the allegations raised by Manasseh B.P. Chronicles Reporters remains committed to balanced journalism and will provide the former chairman an opportunity to respond to the claims.

The development is expected to generate significant debate within Gwagwalada’s political and civic landscape, particularly as residents continue to assess the legacy of the outgoing administration and the future direction of governance in the Area Council.

Chronicles Reporters will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as events unfold.
