OGALA LEADS ABIA STREET PROTEST, JOINS NATIONWIDE TAKE-IT-BACK DEMONSTRATION OVER INSECURITY ON JUNE

Nigerian actress and public figure Doris Ogala on Thursday joined a wave of coordinated demonstrations in Abia State as part of the nationwide June 12 protests organized under the Take-It-Back Movement, demanding urgent action over escalating insecurity, killings, and widespread fear across communities.
The protest, which coincided with Democracy Day commemorations, saw groups of young Nigerians, civil society actors, and concerned residents take to major streets in Umuahia and other parts of the state, carrying placards and chanting slogans condemning rising attacks, kidnappings, and what they described as government inaction.
Ogala, who appeared alongside other demonstrators, was seen engaging with protesters as they marched through key routes, amplifying calls for accountability and improved security architecture across the country. Participants insisted that the essence of June 12 democracy must reflect in the protection of lives and the restoration of public confidence in governance.
The Abia mobilisation formed part of a wider coordinated action across several states, where members of the Take-It-Back Movement and allied groups demanded an end to insecurity, economic hardship, and what they termed deepening democratic decline.
Security presence was observed in parts of the state capital to monitor the procession, though the protest reportedly remained largely peaceful, with demonstrators dispersing after presenting their grievances.
Organisers maintained that the demonstrations would continue in different forms until government authorities respond decisively to the growing security challenges confronting the nation.
