Residents of Gwagwalada are calling on law enforcement authorities to arrest and investigate a man identified as Kingsley, popularly known as “DC,” following an alleged assault on a woman during a dispute at Megascreen in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on June 2 when a woman identified as Mamah visited a roadside fried yam vendor to purchase food.
According to eyewitnesses, Mamah was waiting for her order to be served when Kingsley allegedly approached the stand and began touching the freshly prepared fried yam with his bare hands.
Witnesses said both Mamah and the vendor immediately objected to his actions, describing them as inappropriate and unhygienic. The vendor reportedly informed him that he could not interfere with food already prepared for a customer.
What began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated after Kingsley allegedly became aggressive and ordered Mamah to stop speaking. Eyewitnesses claimed he threatened to beat her if she continued to challenge him over the incident.
Mamah reportedly insisted she had a right to complain since the food belonged to her and she believed his actions were wrong.
Several residents at the scene allegedly attempted to calm tensions and prevent the situation from escalating further. However, witnesses claimed Kingsley became increasingly hostile despite repeated pleas from bystanders.
According to accounts from those present, Kingsley allegedly picked up a cable-wire and began flogging Mamah repeatedly. Witnesses said she sustained visible bruises during the assault.
The suspect was also accused of threatening to kill the woman during the confrontation, causing panic among residents and traders in the area.
Fearing for her safety, Mamah reportedly fled the scene and immediately reported the matter at a nearby police station.
Sources familiar with the incident said police officers later visited the location, but the suspect had already left before security personnel arrived.
Residents who spoke with Chronicles Reporters expressed concern over what they described as a growing pattern of intimidation and violence within the community. Some alleged that Kingsley had previously threatened individuals in the area without facing legal consequences.
Several residents are now urging security agencies to act swiftly, investigate the allegations thoroughly, and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable under the law.
As of press time, efforts to obtain official comments from security authorities and local community leaders had not yielded any response.
The case has continued to generate reactions across Gwagwalada, with residents insisting that justice must be served and that acts of violence against women should not be tolerated under any circumstance.
