Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has reportedly failed to secure clearance from the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the partyâs Kogi Central Senatorial primary election.
According to a document titled âList of Screened and Qualified Senatorial Aspirantsâ sighted on Sunday, Bello was listed as âNOT CLEAREDâ by the APC screening panel for the Kogi Central Senatorial District contest.
Sources within the party further disclosed that the former governor allegedly did not participate in the APC screening exercise.
He was reportedly sighted in Lagos during the period the screening was held, raising speculations over his absence from the process.
The document, bearing the APC logo and official screening format, showed Yahaya Bello as the only aspirant placed under the âNot Clearedâ category.
Meanwhile, other aspirants from Kogi State were successfully cleared by the committee. Among those listed as qualified were Chief Yusuf Momoh Obaro for Kogi Central and Adedoyin Elizabeth Eshanomi for Kogi West, both marked âCLEAREDâ in the screening report.
The development is expected to generate political reactions within the APC in Kogi State, particularly among Belloâs supporters who had anticipated his participation in the senatorial race.
As of the time of filing this report, the APC had yet to officially disclose the reasons behind Belloâs disqualification from the primary process.
